Paperbackswap is the best thing I’ve come across recently. I’ve been a very active user since early August and get excited everytime the mail comes now. I currently have 8 books en route to me apart from the 25 that I’ve already received. I’ve never had my library grow so fast. Oh wait, I guess a little info would do for those who don’t know.
It’s a book swapping site where all you pay is the postage to send your book to whoever requests/wants it. But you don’t literally swap with someone who’s given you a book back (unless you want to). You list the books you don’t want anymore (all of them have to be in good shape), and then if someone out there wants it they’ll request it— if it’s on their wishlist it’ll automatically request it for them and vice versa. Then once you send that book out you get a “credit” which you can use for whatever book YOU want to request. And the beat goes on.
Really the only thing that I find challenging for me is the postage. It can add up REAL QUICK once you’re sending books out the ass. And finding resourceful ways to package the book(s) can be a pain depending on the size. Okay really it hasn’t been that bad until I started posting my big textbooks. I also was a bit apprehensive about swapping my sweet beloved books (I only had like 5 that I was sure I didn’t want), but I found a solution. There are TONS of books around the house that aren’t necessarily mine but NOBODY fucking uses that we’ve had laying around for YEARS so I’ve posted those in return for books I want. Another mans trash is another mans treasure.
But yeah I’m so proud of my little library. I’ve gotten some bomb ass books that I’ve been wanting for a LONG TIME so I couldn’t be happier.
